Chocolate Caliente & Churros

In Miami, as soon as the mercury dips below 60 degrees two things happen in succession.  First, we break out the heavy winter artillery and second, the hard working employees of La Palma Latin Cafe begin cranking out the thick hot chocolate and the sugary crunchy churros.  It's an instinctive response to the cold weather; they know the masses are coming.  The natives of the Saguesera (Urban Dictionary: Cuban slang for an area in Miami going from Little Havana all down the famous Calle Ocho(8th street) and into the southwest area of Miami Dade County) then make the trek in the frigid weather with their knee high boots and heavy wool coats to partake in this yearly ritual

If you have never experienced it, I suggest you monitor the weather forecast and prepare for the next time the artic winds make it back down our way.  It doesn't happen often, so be ready. And by the way, I was told that because this cold weather is so rare for us Miamians, the calories in the Chocolate Caliente and Churros are temporarily suspended!
