They Never Came Back
I just came back from a two week road trip from Miami to San Diego, Ca. and back. I brought several cameras on my trip but I specifically brought my Polaroid 600 camera to capture abandoned homes and buildings. Every time I go on a road trip I’m intrigued with these abandoned properties. I think to myself, what happened? What happened to the people, the families that once occupied these homes and businesses? One day they walked out and never came back. Did the person pass away? Were they forced out because of financial reasons? So many questions roll through my head!
I chose the polaroid because the images it produces are not sharp. The images are faded, they look old and discolored; Just like the structures I’m photographing. These buildings will soon be demolished or Mother Nature will consumed them. I want their memories to live on in these images, faded just like someone’s memories of when they lived or worked there.
