Memories of China Town

In 2013, I took a trip to Manhattan, New York. My first time visiting N.Y. and it was early in my journey as a photographer. I went, specifically, to train with a N.Y. portrait photographer by the name of Neil Van Niekerk. During my trip I took thousands of photos and a set of those were in China Town. When I returned from the trip and reviewed all my photos, I was a bit disappointed. I didn’t like some of my compositions, some of the photos weren’t completely sharp, and overall I didn’t think they captured what I experienced with my eyes as I walked through China Town.

It’s been almost ten years now and I recently came across the same set of photos as I was cleaning up one of my hard drives. This time, the photos brought back some great memories from that trip. I got to relive that first visit to China Town and although it’s only been ten years, they already seem to be historical in nature.

I have learned not to delete any photos I take, no matter how bad the photo might be, because the memory the image captured and its emotional value will always trump it’s technical flaws.
