El Cangrejo

When I first started developing my skills in flash photography, I learned the art of being a Strobist from great photographers such as David Hobby and Zack Arias. A Strobist is one who uses off camera speed-light flashes to light their portraits. In this session I visited one of Miami’s lobster fishing yards on the Miami River and met “El Cangrejo”. He agreed to allow me to create a couple of images of him posing with the lobster traps that he built and maintained for the fishing company he worked for. El Cangrejo, or The Crab as it translates to in English, had been working as a fisherman almost his entire life; As you can tell by his leathery skin from years of sun exposure. I couldn’t get the full story behind his nickname, but he says he was monikered “El Cangrejo” back in Cuba.
